You Can Call Me

“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
Psalm 50:15

Everybody’s going to have trouble – some how, some way, some day. What do you do when trouble comes your way? This psalm tells us to call upon God. Some folks feel like they shouldn’t bother God with their problems and issues but God is very specific in His instructions in this verse. We’re supposed to ask God for help.  He promises to “deliver”.  God’s going to come through for us!  Our response is also clear:  We are to glorify God!  When – not if – God answers prayer, our response needs to be to thank Him, to praise Him, to give Him all the glory.

God delights in answering our prayers.  He wants to hear from us.  “Don’t hesitate, you can call me.”  (How many of you remember that line from that ancient song?  How many of you are willing to admit it?)  As I thought about this verse, I came to see that we glorify God, not only when our prayers are answered, but we glorify Him in the asking!  Prayer recognizes that I have a need that I cannot meet.  It puts me in my place.  It also recognizes that God can meet this need.  It puts Him in His place!  That glorifies Him.  Prayer is an important part of an ongoing personal relationship with God.

Honoring God and praising Him needs to be a constant part of our life.  Verse 23 says: “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me…”  We need to praise God and glorify Him when He answers our prayers.  We need to praise God and glorify Him the rest of the time, too!

To God be the glory!
