…but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2
Change – it doesn’t come easily to any of us and it seems to get harder as we age! When we stop to think about it, however, we realize that change is an essential part of life. How tragic it would be if a baby did not change, learn and grow! How tragic it is when we as Christians refuse to change, learn and grow!
The focus of our verse for today is transformation – another word for change. This change comes from the inside out – by the “renewing” of our minds. We have to change our way of thinking. This affects not only our relationship with God – our ability to know and do God’s will – but it also affects the way we live. The rest of Romans 12 goes into great detail on how we are to live out the renewal that God gives through faith in Jesus Christ.
One of the best ways to “renew” our minds is to study the Bible. God told Joshua to meditate on God’s Word day and night. Get the Word into your head and it will soak into your heart and change you in wonderful ways. Picture a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. As wonderful as that is, it doesn’t even come close to the miraculous transformation that God wants to work in you!
God commands transformation and God makes it possible. We can fight it, or we can embrace it. We can crawl or we can soar!
